International Republican Institute and The Youth Café in conjunction with partners will hold regional consultations seeking grassroot level inputs by youth who are not engaged in the political process to ensure that the priority issues are captured comprehensively. National Youth Summit 2022 | Magnifying The Visibility Of Youth Leaders.

The National Youth Summit on Magnifying The Visibility Of Youth Leaders was a three-day unique in-person event designed by young people for young people. The summit was convened by the International Republican Institute and The Youth Café and organized with the support of 254 Youth Policy Café, The Global Development Incubator and The Global Opportunity Youth Network. The summit called on young people from all over Kenya to discuss the needs of youth that will integrate into the Kenya Youth Manifesto 2022.

Kenyan Youth Innovations To The Informal Housing Challenge.

In many developing countries, informal settlements are a widespread occurrence. "Informal settlement" is sometimes misinterpreted as a shorthand for urban poverty and misery, overcrowding, and exposure to environmental dangers. This may be influenced by the fact that informal settlements lack essential infrastructural services and facilities and have a high concentration of difficulties to cities' social and political fabric.

In regards to this, The Youth Café organized a community ideation and innovation event on the 19th February 2022 in partnership with The Aga Khan University, University of the Fraser Valley, Innovative Governance of Large Urban Systems, UN-Habitat -Youth Café-Urban Economic Forum, and other private sector and community partners. The focus was on the informal youth housing challenge and its impact on young people to address the everyday housing challenge.

The Youth Café was lucky to be featured on a show called 'Youth On The Move' by Family Media Television. The show's primary objective is to influence youth's perceptions towards white-collar jobs, by showcasing a range of income-generating projects that have made use of creativity, talent, and innovation. This goes in line with The Youth Cafés objective of seeing every young person and youth organization in Africa benefit towards a sustainable, entrepreneurial, and innovative future by connecting them to new ideas, skills, and people.

The Youth Cafés Executive Director, Willice Onyango, was a keynote speaker sharing his experiences in "Youth Space in Policy Advocacy" during the launch of "A mentorship and Coaching Program on Effective Citizenry and Career Development" held at Zetech University, a program being implemented by 254 Youth Policy Café (254YPC), in collaboration with Zetech University.

On the 9th of February 2022, The Youth Café team took part in the mobile medical clinic that had been happening in Kanyonyoo, Border Police Unit Headquarters for a period of two weeks. During the clinic we held talk sessions, endorsing the idea of the Kenya Youth Manifesto development, seeking their inputs on some of the major issues the youth in the area have to deal with. Massive youth unemployment is something we expect the coming government to resolve.

The Youth Café Is The Newest Member Of Democracy Research & Development.

On the 19th of January 2022, The Youth Café got admission as the newest and only member in East and Central Africa to Democracy R&D. Democracy R&D is an international network of organizations, associations, and individuals helping decision-makers take hard decisions and build public trust. The Youth Café had been interviewed on the 10th of January and on behalf of the coordination group, David Schecter, proposed The Youth Café as a new organizational member of Democracy R&D, where the proposal was met with no objections.

Policy Interventions And Measures Ahead Of The 2022 General Elections.

The Youth Café, in its mandate to safeguard the public's interest, is investing in different policy interventions that have a direct bearing on the citizens, and accountability of the Kenyan Government. The 2022 elections are viewed as a moment to raise the integrity bar and root corrupt leaders out of office. During the past few years, corruption has increased significantly in the country. The whole idea of corruption has been ethnicized and politicized, allowing leaders and Kenyan citizens today to disregard the question of accountability, and as a result, we have performed poorly in the fight against corruption.

The Youth Café Discussions With The Chief Justice On Social Transformation Through Access To Justice.

In commemoration of the International Day of Democracy, a section of the Civil Societies Organizations, The International Commission of Jurists, International Justice Mission Kenya, Kenya Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International Kenya, Centre of Rights Education and Awareness, Transparency International- Kenya, and The Youth Café held a virtual meeting with the Chief Justice, the president of the Supreme Court, honorable Lady Justice Martha Koome, On September 17, 2021, to deliberate on collaborations and contributions towards the implementation of the Chief Justice’s vision of social transformation through access to justice.
