The Youth Café In A Mobile Clinics Meeting At The Border Police Unit Headquarters

On Tuesday the 11th of January 2022, The Youth Café members were thrilled to be part of another pre-mobile clinic meeting held at the Border Police Unit headquarters in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County. The US Army officials are initiating the mobile clinic project at the Border Police Unit headquarters to promote the Border Police Unit and the work they do for the communities around for better relations and collaborations between the police officers and members of the community. We are recruiting apprentices during the clinics to acquire skills as paramedics.

Go Youth! Global Open Call on Youth Voices | Calling on Youth-Led Ideas and Innovations!

The open call has global prizes. Selected finalists will receive seed funding (quantum subject to the needs of each project) to pilot their innovations in their communities, as well as research mentorship to help monitor and evaluate their projects, write research manuscripts, and disseminate their findings to a wider audience. Finalists will also be given the opportunity to have their projects recognized at international conferences and ceremonies.

The Youth Café At The Summit For Democracy | Strengthening Democracy In Times Of Peril

On December 9-10, 2021, President Biden will host the first of two Summits for Democracy. The Youth Café is delighted to be joining the Youth Town Hall during the Summit for Democracy. The Summit for Democracy will be a virtual event hosted by the President of the United States and joined by other Chiefs of State, Heads of Government, international and civil society organization leaders, and other governmental and non-governmental participants.

Youth Contributions To Good Governance And The Fight Against Corruption In A Digital World

On the 7th of December 2021, The Youth Café, in partnership with the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), US Embassy, was honored to hold a Civic Leadership Speakers Forum with youth leaders in civil society organizations such as Greenpeace Africa, Me and You For Her, National Youth Council, Scion Creative, Bold Impact Africa, Techwomen Kenya, Champion for SDGs among others at the American Corner Nairobi- Moi University. It was a 3-hour session with other youth leaders joining in virtually.

The Youth Café And The Royal Danish Embassy Discussions On Strategic Framework For Youth In Kenya

The Youth Café recently met officials of the Royal Danish Embassy to discuss possible partnership areas as reflected in the Embassy's new strategic framework for the year 2021 to 2025. The meeting was attended by Embassy representatives including Makena Kirima- Programme Manager who is part of the docket of Access to Justice, Rule of Law and Peace, Security and Stability; Joseph Kimani Njuguna, a Programme Manager in the Democratic Governance department; Laura Balle Svenden, serving as an intern: as well as Richard Wambua and Jossie Nyamai who are part of the Embassy’s Advisory Youth Sounding Board in charge of Climate Action, Environment and Public Budgeting respectively. On the other hand, The Youth Café was represented by Willice Onyango, Maureen Amuhinda, Fredrick Wambua and Tabitha Wangechi.

Report On Youth Leadership And Political Participation In Kenya

Youth leaders from across Kenya came together to find solutions on ways to strengthen youth political participation in Kenya. This was particularly poignant, especially in the context of the upcoming general elections in 2022. The event was hosted by GovJunction, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and The Youth Café on November 20, 2021.

Quo Vadis? Where are you going? This question took on a whole new meaning in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. With the spread of the virus, the concept of human mobility changed dramatically. For the first time, people all around the globe were confronted with a multilateral border shut-down. Even those who took freedom of movement for granted were faced with limitations previously unheard of.

Global Youth Vaccine Confidence Report 2021

While youth confidence in vaccine development against COVID-19 varies across countries with different income-levels, the general trend in the global sample of youth indicated high levels of confidence, with only 8% of youth expressing disagreement with the statement that they are confident in sanitary measures to respond, manage and address the COVID-19 pandemic.

In many countries, youth and vulnerable groups increasingly join the informal waste sector in search of a living. Informal waste reclaiming and treatment can empower marginalized communities, giving them social and working dignity. However, informal waste workers are often unskilled, untrained and perform scavenging and waste picking operations in unsafe and unhygienic conditions. Lack of personal protective equipment, such as gloves, glasses, and masks, exposes them to contamination from hazardous materials and accidental wounds caused by improper management on a daily basis.

THE YOUTH CAFÉ MANDELA WASHINGTON FELLOWSHIP ALUMNUS TAKES PART IN THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE’S SUMMIT FOR DEMOCRACY.

The Youth Cafés Executive Director, Mr. Willice Onyango, as a Kenyan youth representative, attended the Youth Town Hall, moderated by Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield. Mr. Willice asked his question as follows; Today, we find many young people want to engage in politics but are disheartened by the negative image projected by the current political elite and their apparent inability to tackle multiple crises. What do you think about nontraditional paths to political leadership, and how effective are non-formal education approaches in developing democratic attitudes particularly among youth?

At The Youth Café offices on the 11th of January, we were honored to host Cherie from Innovative Governance of Large Urban Systems for discussions on a project on Community Ideation and Innovation for youth facing Informal Housing Challenges in partnership with Aga Khan University, University of the Fraser Valley, UN-Habitat, Urban Economic Forum, and other private sector and community stakeholders.

The project objectifies to bring together a multidisciplinary team of professionals, community leaders, and students that will facilitate improved development processes and policy outputs in response to informal housing challenges that promote the collaboration and participation of all relevant stakeholders.
