After months of applications, shortlisting and, The Youth Cafe and its partners have awarded 3 finalists who are working on fighting corruption at the grassroots level. The event took place at our offices and we had guests such as Amos Onyango of PLO Foundation, Nerima Wako of Siasa Place and Samuel Kimeu the Executive Director at Africa Voices Foundation and formerly of Transparency International. |

Youth engagement in democracy not only promotes active citizenship but also strengthens social responsibility. The Youth Café believes that young people must get engaged in formal political processes and give their voice in drawing both today’s and tomorrow’s politics. |

Every year, the OECD Development Centre, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa published a report that focuses on the economics of most African countries. The report reviews the recent economic situation and predicts the short-term interrelated economic, social, and political evolution of all African economies. In the 2021 report, the African Economic Outlook focuses on three main issues; debt resolution, governance and growth in Africa. As a Pan-African youth-led organization, The Youth Café believes that young people have a role to play in the evolution of their countries because they are stakeholders. Therefore, understanding the main issues affecting their continent is the first step in knowing how they will be affected and what they can do about it. |

The youth, products of their communities, are key agents of peacebuilding, especially those who have experienced conflict firsthand. These young people have key roles to play in peace processes since they have a clear vision of what peace could look like in their countries and communities and have the drive to work towards the realisation of these goals. |

International Republican Institute plans to support civic-minded youth in developing the networks, tools, and skills needed to effectively advocate for transparent, responsive governance at the county level. IRI aims to equip a cadre of civic minded youth activists with: 1) Knowledge of the Access to Information Act (ATI) and how it should be implemented 2) An understanding of county specific ATI compliance issues and other governance and/or corruption challenges 3) Targeted capacity building in project design and technical skills(awareness raising, advocacy, coalition building and government engagement) as well as 4) Access to networks, platforms, and funding to design and implement initiatives to effectively enhance transparency and accountability at the county level. The target counties are Lamu, Kitui and Kakamega. |
