Are you a young content creator, leader living in Africa who wants to share your story?

The Youth Café, in collaboration with Pumbaa Eco, is implementing the “Africa True Stories” project to make the Chinese Internet see a thriving Africa and link China to sustainable investment in Africa. The Youth Café seeks to work with 20- 50 writers who will bring onboard their expertise and deliver quality articles and blogs. These writers will form writing groups of 3-4 and get support in brainstorming, writing, and revising from each other, TYC and Pumbaa Eco. There will be a training course at the beginning of the whole process. The content creators will be supported to produce works of writing, video, and audio and publish over 100+ articles, and achieve 1,000,000+ views. These works will then be posted on both African and Chinese internet, including platforms like Top Buzz, Wechat, thepaper.cn, and the Peace Information Platform to be launched in late 2021 by the Nanjing government. In return, the content creators will get partial profits generated by their works.

Public participation and civic space among the youth are at the heart of the work of The Youth Café, making it a priority area to not only partner and engage with organizations with similar goals but to also champion for the protection of young civil society actors and overall promotion of civic space for youth.

For this to happen, we should better comprehend what platforms and causes young people veer towards, how their digital activism intersects with traditional civic engagement and what opportunities and obstacles actors encounter in the digital sphere.

In this event, we hope to come up with key points on how you can contribute to good governance in a digital world and find ways to fight against corruption.

The Youth Café in partnership with Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), US Embassy intends to invite 20 young men and women to the event that will be held on Tuesday, 7th December 2021 at the America Space at the Bazaar, 5th floor from 9.30 am - 12.30 pm.

We are so pleased today to have met with the Global Director and the Host of Govjunction Steadman Noble. Govjunction is a Youth-focused social networking community space for youth advocates, activists, leaders & facilitators!

We agreed to establish an MOU between Govjunction and The Youth Café and later a partnership agreement to advance the progress under our shared initiatives of Governance and Political Inclusion!!

On 5th November, we had a visit from representatives of Keilot Kenya who are one of the leading renewable and green solution energy providers and integrators in Kenya with renewable solutions from Israel.

During the meeting, we discussed planning a pilot project that will see institutions especially schools and rural communities enhance their lifestyle through green energy, improve their lives and reach marginalized communities. The project will focus on clean cooking, clean energy and clean water. We aim to create jobs for more than 1500 young men and women, install over 5,000 units of renewable energy solutions which will reduce 9,200 tons of CO2 emissions by replacing wood, charcoal and other non-renewable energy sources and finally save families in rural Kenya more than 20 million Kenya Shillings per month means 2.25 million USD annually for the project in energy-related expenditure.

Through this project, which aligns with The Youth Cafés thematic area of Environmental Preservation & Climate Change, we hope to chart a way forward for a more green, resilient and sustainable Kenya!

On the 1st of December 2021, Young African Leaders Initiative Network (YALI) representatives Annette Smith and Morgan Ochieng visited The Youth Café offices at Kitisuru Gardens, Nairobi, to discuss the necessary arrangements for the successful execution of the upcoming event to be held on the 7th of December 2021.

The event will host approximately 30 youth advocates, stakeholders of civic engagement, physically at The Youth Café office, from across the country. The Youth Café will mobilize to stream the discussion virtually to host more youth advocates as a measure put in place to observe the Covid-19 guidelines.
