The Youth Café was nominated as one of the top five finalists out of a pool of over 220 nominees from 52 countries around the world!

The WIN WIN Youth Award is an international award that aims to empower and reward young people who play an active role in the creation of a more sustainable future. We were nominated for our work under the thematic area of Governance and Political inclusion as highlighted in our Theory of Change. One of our projects in this area is titled “Engaging youths in the fight against corruption and the closing civic spaces in Kenya”.

Executive Director of The Youth Café’s Willice Onyango, had the profound opportunity to contribute to the book titled “Securitizing Youth: Young People’s Roles in the Global Peace and Security Agenda”.

In chapter 10 of the book, titled “Digital Media as the Next Frontier for Fighting Violent Extremism among Youth?” the he discusses the link between social media and the growing role of personal, political, ethnic, religious, and violent radicalization of youth in sectarian or political groups.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we have not been able to have in-person visits with our friends. However, since the restrictions eased a little, The Youth Café had the Pleasure of welcoming one of our friends and Partners, James Karongo Kuria who is the Regional Program Officer for Youth Excel; for International Research and Exchange Board (IREX) to our office. We had the opportunity to have a chat with him to get his insight and experience working with us.

As a leader in the Agriculture sector, The Youth Café has been invited to attend a Technical Validation Workshop, on July 13 2021, to share our input towards finalizing the “Investment Guidelines for Youth in Agri-food Systems in Africa” jointly prepared by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation and African Union Commission.

The Guidelines aim to inform and provide practical guidance on the design of investment programmes and interventions that focus on promotion of youth in agri-food systems. We are excited to be a part of this amazing initiative!

We are thrilled to be partnering with LEAP Africa to introduce the ‘Youth Day of Service’ (YDoS), a youth-led social impact campaign, which will take place on August 12th- August 18th, 2021 in commemoration of ‘International Youth Day.’ The week-long action campaign fosters the spirit of volunteerism within the youth population and inspires them to be active change agents in their communities continuously. The campaign theme for this year’s YDOS is ‘Youthful and Useful.’
