Towards Vaccine Equity: Youth Access To Covid-19 Vaccine In Africa

Despite the need to be vaccinated, Africa is falling behind in the global vaccination drive with only 3% of the continent’s population being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to a press release from the African Union. Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), dedicated to “immunization for all” had a virtual introductory meeting with The Youth Café. The meeting involved discussion on increased engagement and collaboration in the African continent engaged in Covid-19 advocacy at the regional and continental levels.

The Youth Café is looking for an Entrepreneur from our networks to share their story!

Are you a young Entrepreneur who has benefitted from our programs? We are looking for someone to share their experiences working with TYC during the upcoming African Entrepreneurship Forum, taking place virtually on 30 November. This will be in the form of a 15-minute discussion between you and the Executive Director of TYC, Willice Onyango.

This is an incredible opportunity that provides a continent-wide platform that connects entrepreneurs to funders as well as to each other for networking, insights, and access to opportunities to bridge the knowledge gap moving from a start-up to the next level of business.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it various challenges for young Entrepreneurs. This forum aims to motivate young entrepreneurs as they look forward to a new year, operating amidst post-pandemic unpredictable times.

Scholarship to attend the One Young World Summit 2022!

The Youth Café is one of the nominating supporters for the One Young World Summit. We would like to nominate young people in our network to attend the 2022 Summit happening in Tokyo!

The Summit will see 2000 young leaders from 190+ countries descend to Tokyo for the global forum for young leaders. During the Summit, delegates will present and debate solutions to our time’s most pressing issues alongside senior leaders.

Underemployment and the lack of employment opportunities are one of the most significant socioeconomic and security challenges we face, partially brought on due to the youth bulge present in many countries around the world. The consequences of youth unemployment affect more than the youth itself as it can lead to poverty, violent extremism, political instability, drugs and crime. Read more…

Projects Update

The Youth Cafe seeks to work with 20- 50 writers who will bring on board their expertise and deliver quality articles and blogs. These writers will form writing groups of 3-4 and get support in brainstorming, writing, and revising from each other, TYC and Pumbaa Eco. There will be a training course at the beginning of the whole process.

The Africa True Stories program is a digital brand project implemented by The Youth Café in collaboration with Pumbaa Eco. We invite leaders in different industries, young people, and Chinese people living in Africa to share stories about their lives in Africa.

The Kenya Youth Manifesto 2022

The Kenyan youth have been largely excluded from meaningful political participation in the past. Hence, leading up to the 2022 general elections, The Youth Café and partners are collaboratively writing Regional/County Youth Manifestos that will eventually feed into a National Kenya Youth Manifesto 2022 (KYM 2022) to outline the views of the nation's youth and demand to be given equal chance and supported to actively participate in the forthcoming general elections.

Magnifying Visibility Of Youth Leaders

International Republican Institute, The Youth Café and partners are working on a project aimed to enhance the skills of Kenyan youth to gain influence within the political establishment and to serve in civic and political leadership roles. To accomplish this, the project will hold a series of capacity-building training to increase the technical skills of Kenyan youth to successfully participate in the party primaries and contest in the elections.

The Youth Café was privileged to have been invited to take part in this year’s Babacar Ndiaye Lecture, which took place virtually on Wednesday, 20 October 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Nairobi Time. This year's keynote lecture was under the theme "The importance of science, technology and innovation in the transformation of African economies under the AfCFTA" and was delivered by Prof. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, first female President of Mauritius and 2007 laureate of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards.

The 3 Winners Of The Anti-corruption Photo/Video Competition Tell Us About The Impact Of The Award

The Youth Café, in collaboration with its partners, aims to build the power of young Kenyans to impact government policies, uphold their rights, and fight against corruption and the closing civic space, by strengthening evidence-based advocacy for accountability, critical thinking and media skills, and collaboration among state and youth organizations.

Out of the 100,000 participants that took part in the competition, we had 3 winners; 1st Place, Damaris Aswa, 2nd Place, Brian Odhiambo, 3rd Place, Boniface Munene.
