Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world, Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people.
The Constitution protects all Kenyans from discrimination. Article 10 stipulates human dignity, equity, social justice, inclusiveness, equality, human rights, non-discrimination, and protection of the marginalized as national values and principles of governance. Articles 97 and 98 make express provisions for the representation of persons with disabilities in the National Assembly and Senate. The County Assemblies similarly include legislators with disabilities, pursuant to Article 177 of the Constitution.
“During my Mandela Washington Fellowship in the United States, I experienced firsthand how individuals are respected and given equal opportunities irrespective of their disabilities,” Sunday says. “I realized: it’s time to teach our youth about their rights and how to demand them.”Sunday encourages young adults to volunteer to better understand themselves and what good they can do in the world.
