About
The Youth Cafe’s Youth Anti-Corruption Collective Action Impact Centre Y(ACCA) is a unique initiative within IACA dedicated to the promotion of Collective Youth Action in response to the current demand for new and more effective alternatives in fighting corruption, grounded in local contexts and based on trust and collaboration.
The YACCA is designed to provide educational services, to promote research, and to foster the practical implementation of Collective Youth Action initiatives. Through its flagship programme, the Youth Anti-Corruption Collective Action Certificate (YACCA), the Centre promotes the practical implementation of Collective Youth Action based on a tailored methodology and close guidance. The YACCA certificate is open for applicants to start activities in April 2024.
ACCA Principles and Action Areas
Alternative to traditional anti-corruption approaches
The YACCA addresses the need for alternatives to traditional models in the anti-corruption field, which are usually based on repression, sanctions, reduction of discretion, and the like. This alternative response is centered on elements that strengthen trust, collaboration, voluntary participation, and the existence of multiple actors whose common purpose is to address the problem of corruption in a particular sector.
Combination of academic and practical activities
The effective fostering of Collective Youth Action initiatives is based on a combination of academic foundations and impact-driven activities. Projects with real impact are pursued, based on education, mentoring, and the implementation of practical methodologies and tools.
Enhancing impact through collaboration and synergies
Collaboration lies at the heart of Collective Youth Action. The YACCA carries out activities in close collaboration with other TYC departments, and with other international organizations, initiatives, civil society, and academia with an interest in the field of Collective Action.
Focus on local context and culture
A fundamental principle in the implementation of the YACCA activities is the consideration of the local context and culture. Experience in implementing anti-corruption interventions demonstrates that consideration of local characteristics is a critical first step for effectiveness.
Education and Training
The YACCA provides education and training in the area of Collective Youth Action focusing on the conditions and factors that enhance collaboration, and the elements for effective implementation of anti-corruption initiatives.
Promote Collective Action
The Centre promotes Collective Youth Action through projects designed and led in their implementation by professionals in the anti-corruption area. For this purpose, the Centre applies a thorough methodology and provides close guidance to participants.
Research
Collective Youth Action in the anti-corruption sector is an evolving area that benefits greatly from theoretical thinking and empirical evidence. The YACCA promotes research conducted primarily by programme participants, but also by practitioners and academics interested in the field.
ACCA Certificate
At the heart of the Centre is the Youth Anti-Corruption Collective Action Certificate (ACCA), a one-year post-graduate certificate that trains and guides participants in the implementation of Collective Youth Action projects.
