High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development

The UN General Assembly will hold a high-level dialogue on financing for development (FfD) on 26 September 2019, the day after the meeting of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under UNGA auspices. The FfD meeting is mandated in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (para 132), which calls for it to convene back-to-back with the HLPF’s UNGA-level meeting every four years.

According to an Information Note from the UNGA President on 30 May 2019, an official summary of the Dialogue will list major initiatives and recommendations emerging from the discussion. The provisional draft agenda was released on 22 July 2019. It lists four interactive dialogues as part of the event, on the topics of: putting public resources to work for more equal, sustainable societies, including by combatting illicit financial flows (IFFs); financing the SDGs and climate action against rising debt burdens; moving the money to fill the climate action and SDG financing gap; and announcements and new initiatives.

This meeting will take place at the beginning of the 74th UNGA session (UNGA 74), which will open on 17 September 2019. The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 24 September 2019. The dialogue on FfD is also part of a week-long series of high-level meetings on topics related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and climate change.
