Ecosystem and Biodiversity: A Natural capital for a sustainable Global Economy.

The theme for World Environment Day, 5 June 2020 is BIODIVERSITY — a call to action to combat the accelerating species loss and degradation of the natural world. With 1 million species facing Threat to extinction, there has never been a more important time to focus on biodiversity.

Hosted by Colombia, in partnership with Germany, World Environment Day urges us to rethink how our economic systems have evolved, and the impact they have on the environment.

These are issues the world cannot lose sight of even as we tackle the coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing climate crisis. Colombia has one of the highest diversities of species in the world, boasting among many others, 3500 types of orchids and 19 per cent of the world’s bird types. The government has made biodiversity preservation a national priority.

This year, the world is facing massive challenges drawing from the COVID-19 pandemic which has had endless repercussions to the vulnerable ecosystems that need global attention. This moment offers an opportunity to reflect, re-energize and stand up for Environmental Conservation.

The Youth Cafe works with young men and women in Kenya and around Africa to foster community resilience, propose innovative solutions, drive social progress, youth empowerment and inspire change.

We will be hosting a webinar to commemorate the day for Youth to come share, air their views and learn from professionals. It is a platform for meaningful contributions. The outcomes would be updated on our website and social media pages, and also shared with youths, youth lead organisations and UN youth groups across the world.

We recommend celebrating World Environment Day every day of the year!”
