Nairobi, Kenya, 31 July 2020: The Youth Café, a non- profit youth organization that fosters community resilience, propose innovative solutions, drive social progress, youth empowerment and inspire political change, has geared up to celebrate International Youth Day; marked globally on 12 August. This announcement comes in light of The Youth Café‘s unwavering commitment to raise awareness about youth challenges.
Youth engagement for global action is the main theme for International Youth Day 2020. The theme seeks to dissect how youths are engaged in various aspects locally, nationally and globally. The need to boost youth representation in multilateral and political institutes will also be looked upon.
To provide a starting point for youth in Africa, The Youth Café has planned a series of activities prior to the date of celebration and has lined up creative launches on International Youth Day. In his comments, Willice Onyango, executive director of The Youth Café, said:
Youth have been greatly affected by the current pandemic and at this auspicious day we will provide them a platform to voice their grievances and further discuss viable solutions to local, national and global issues. Through these activities young people will be involved in the fight against corruption and unemployment, discuss platforms to create enterprise, explore innovative solutions to revive the economy amid the current pandemic and tackle issues faced by youth today. Onyango added.
Podcast style discussions will be held considering the engagement of youth in political processes, while Yasmin Mohamed a luminary documentarian will launch two documentaries to display youths’ outlook on unemployment, struggles of professional success and the dive into entrepreneurship. Youths will express their dissatisfaction with government policies in creative and respectful Tik- Tok video challenge by airing speeches of false promises. A British parliamentary style debate entitled ‘The house believes youth engagement is a hoax’ will instigate discussion on youth inclusiveness. Additionally, an online magazine and blog posts will pave the way for artists, photographers, poets and writers to express their viewpoints and add to the festivity.
