Exceptional Candidates Welcome to Apply – The Youth Cafe Advisory  Board!

The Youth Cafe, officially registered as The Youth Cafe Limited, is an organization that, Since 2012, has been working with young men and women in Kenya and around Africa as a trailblazer in advancing youth-led approaches toward achieving sustainable development, and social equity, innovative solutions, community resilience, and transformative change.

It is Africa’s largest convening community of professionals harnessing youth advocacy, policy, and research for social impact, with over 3,500 member organizations and over 930,000 individual members virtually from every country in Africa. We engage monthly through over 260,000 touchpoints. Its headquarters in Kenya have regional coverage. In Africa, we are registered as a company with a limited guarantee and have been operating since 2014.

Our  work centers on enriching the lives of young people by modeling and advancing youth-led and rights-based approaches to foster young people’s civic efficacy, community resilience, sustainable development, and equitable society, as well as proposing innovative solutions, driving social progress, and inspiring transformative change by utilizing innovative research, policy, and advocacy actions.

The Advisory Board provides direction and oversight to the organization’s work. With the expected growth and expansion of its mandate, work, and reach, the Advisory Board invites applications for qualified individuals who will promote and champion The Youth Cafe within their respective fields and areas of influence through their professional and informal networks. The Call:

To advance The Youth Cafe's mandate and objectives, we are looking for eight new advisory board members to be added to the current board size, consisting of 4 males and three females (aged 18-50). Young Africans (including those from the diaspora) who tick some or all of the boxes below:

  • Passionate about supporting young people, especially young women, to achieve their potential

  • Non-partisan

  • Tolerant of religious views

  • Professional in the private sector with fundraising experiences

  • Has influence on youth demography

  • Anyone of from any parts of the world is welcome to apply. They could either be residents on the continent, non-residents, or in the diaspora. As we seek a diverse Advisory Board, experience in finance, marketing, branding, non-profit management, investments, and global development are specific skills areas we anticipate but are not mandatory.

  • As we intend to include a young person (18 – 35 years) to represent the demography that The Youth Cafe focuses on, we encourage young people to apply.

  • Experience as a board member for a not-for-profit organization or association would be an asset but is not mandatory.

  • Exceptional candidates above age between 18-55 are welcome to apply by 28th September, 2022.

How to apply:

Please fill out the application form and upload your resume and letter of interest to be considered. In your resume, please highlight your employment experiences, abilities, and official language and skill. The letter of Interest should indicate how your selection would contribute to The Youth Cafe and why you wish to be a member of the Advisory Board of The Youth Cafe.


Recommendation:

If you have persons you would like to recommend, please send us an email at advisory.board@theyouthcafe.com. This is only admissible for recommendations. We can then go ahead to email the recommended persons this call with the links after reviewing the quality of the person recommended.


What to Expect:

  1. Time commitment of at least four hours of annual board meetings. Meetings will either be held virtually or physically. We anticipate that the advisory board position will require between four-six hours of your time every month

  2. Opportunities to help sharpen the vision and programs of one of Africa’s fastest-growing youth-focused non-profits.

  3. Opportunities to see first-hand TYC’s programs and projects with young people through site visits where possible.

  4. Lend your expertise by being a member of a Board Committee to contribute more closely to TYC’s operations and future plans

The Advisory Board position is a voluntary/non-remunerated position. However, costs associated with participation at physical board meetings will be covered.

After you apply:

Shortlisted candidates will be notified for interaction in September 2022.

Successful candidates will be presented for review by Advisory Board Members and confirmed in the 11th annual Board meeting in December 2022.

New Advisory Board members will be announced in late December 2022/January 2023.
