The 9 August 2022 general elections in Kenya took place in a peaceful environment overall, with fundamental democratic rights respected. Six separate votes were held at different levels concurrently and this made for a complicated process that took nearly a week to finalize, with numerous challenges emerging.
The study titled “Implications Of The African Continental Free Trade Area For Trade And Biodiversity investigates” the nexus between trade in biodiversity, specifically on the legal and sustainable trade of biodiversity-based goods and services (including BioTrade), and the existing commitments under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The EU Action Plan On Human Rights And Democracy 2020–2024 is a framework, one of purpose and direction, with a broad range of policies, tools, and political and financial instruments. This EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy 2020-2024 is the third Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy adopted by the EU. As with the previous two Action Plans, the objective is to enhance and hone EU efforts to promote human rights and democracy worldwide.
According to the Kenya Population Situation Analysis (2013), the country has a rapidly growing population with the majority (24%) being below 20 years. This young population has implications for the social, economic, and political agenda of the country. A young population puts great demands on the provision of health services, education, water and sanitation, housing, and employment.
Adolescents and youth comprise 24% of Kenya’s population. This youthful population affects the country's social, economic and political agenda. A young population provides opportunities for the country’s development if suitable investments are made towards attaining educational and health goals, including all-around preparation for responsible adulthood. At the same time, a youthful population puts great demands on the provision of health services, education, water and sanitation, housing and employment.
Despite the vast differences between Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), most share a common dilemma: Lack of funds, which limits the quantity and/ or quality of the important work they do. CSOs increasingly find that grants and donations are inadequate to meet their program needs, let alone to expand program activities. This, therefore, calls for better local resource mobilization to enable them to meet their diverse needs.
The East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN) seeks to enhance the knowledge base and promote best practices for organized philanthropy. This will be realized by investing in research and innovation, documentation, and dissemination, and offering capacity strengthening support to EAPN members and other philanthropy actors. EAPN recognizes the need for relevant data as a basis of effective monitoring, reporting, and coordinating philanthropy efforts in the ever-changing landscape of institutionalized philanthropy in East Africa.
The development field recognizes African philanthropy by its unique characteristics, deeply rooted in community culture and traditions of interpersonal connectedness and social solidarity. In recent years, the emergence of African philanthropy narratives aims to appreciate African giving models that continue to inform giving.
