Announcing An Open Call On Community Engagement In Data Science Research In Africa

The Youth Cafe has a track record spanning over a decade in trailblazing youth-led development and embedding research and learning in programs to strengthen systems and development outcomes. TYC plays a key role in promoting and advocating for relevant global health research, resource mobilization for research, utilization, and management of knowledge, and capacity development.

Hence the need to share this open call.  We would love to see creative ideas from young people who are passionate about the role of community involvement in research.

This open call is being organized by the REDSSA (Research for Ethical Data Science in sub-Saharan Africa) group, with the goal to identify stakeholder-driven ways to increase community engagement on data science in health research in Africa. The organizers are seeking creative ideas for how to raise awareness among communities that sensitive individual health and location information is being collected and shared as part of large, anonymized data sets for research.

Submissions are being accepted now through March 31, and participation is open to anyone age 18 and above who has past or current experience with living or working in Africa.
