Empowering young people involves recognizing their potential and valuing their contributions to society. It encompasses aspects such as education, employment, civic engagement, leadership development, and access to resources. While sustainable development refers to a holistic approach to economic, social, and environmental progress that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
On the 7th of December 2021, The Youth Café, in partnership with the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), US Embassy, was honored to hold a Civic Leadership Speakers Forum with youth leaders in civil society organizations such as Greenpeace Africa, Me and You For Her, National Youth Council, Scion Creative, Bold Impact Africa, Techwomen Kenya, Champion for SDGs among others at the American Corner Nairobi- Moi University. It was a 3-hour session with other youth leaders joining in virtually.
The Youth Café is proud to announce that our digital/media information literacy projects with African youth has won FIRST place in UNESCO GLOBAL AWARDS!! Over the years The Youth Café has undertaken projects and activities to further digital/media information literacy among the youth in Africa and implemented a media project aimed at cultivating youth power to advance media independence. The UNESCO MIL Alliance will organize an award ceremony on the UNESCO MIL CLICKS platform.
The Youth Cafe has conducted extensive consultations with youth-led and youth-focused organizations operating locally, nationally, or regionally in all parts of the world. In particular, the content of this submission comes from the consultations held at the Youth Forum held in conjunction with the XII Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development in Quito 2020 , a mapping of youth-led and youth-focused alternatives to child dentition in Latin America, and a recent webinar we held about the effects of COVID on youth on the move.
he Youth Cafe and The Journal of Science Policy & Governance (JSPG), is proud to announce the release of its Special Issue on the Impacts of Emerging Technologies on Inequality and Sustainability. This issue was produced in collaboration with The Youth Cafe, the formal mechanism for children and youth to engage with various stakeholders, including the implementation, follow-up, and review of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To mark its 75th anniversary, The Youth Cafe and the United Nations have launched the biggest-ever global conversation on the role of global cooperation in building the future we want. Tackling issues such as the climate crisis, inequality, health emergencies, new patterns of violence and the major changes we are seeing in population and technology; in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and - our shared vision for the future - will require cooperation across borders, sectors and generations.
The Youth Cafe is honored to be featured in a new study by The Global Donor Platform for Rural Development titled “ Insights into Youth Networks Working Around Agriculture and Rural Development in Africa”. The Study identified 40 networks spatially spread around Africa though online searches and snowballing methods. A full list of all identified networks is attached in the appendix. This study however selected and discussed 12 networks in detail, including The Youth Cafe. This selection was based on availability of data and representativeness of the networks. Based in Bonn, Germany, The Global Donor Platform for Rural Development is currently a network of 40 bilateral and multilateral donors, international financial institutions, intergovernmental organizations, foundations, and development agencies.
The conference is jointly organized by the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Development Programme, on the theme “Jobs, Entrepreneurship and Capacity Development for African Youths,” The topic aligns with the sustainable development goals on ‘inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all’.
