The Youth Cafe, in partnership with Foraus, is working on a project to promote One Health and Food Security in East Africa. One Health as a concept first appeared in 2004, when a coalition of global health experts laid its foundations with the so-called “Manhattan principles”, setting the agenda for fifteen years of advocacy by several academic and non-profit organizations.

The Youth Café and Africa Union Commission commemorated the International Rural Women Day under the theme Strengthening rural women’s contribution to sustainable food systems through the African Continental Free Trade Area. The purpose was to target different stakeholders that are involved in supporting the empowerment of rural women such as Member States, Regional Economic Communities, Academics, Financial Institutions, Development Partners, Women Right Champions, UN Agencies and Civil Society Organizations.

Statement On International Youth Day 2021 | Creating Spaces And Opportunities For Global Food Systems Through Youth-led Innovation

International Youth Day takes place annually on the 12th of August. This year’s theme is focused on “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. Though, the success of this effort on a global scale can only be achieved through the participation of youth. There are always discussions about the need for inclusive support mechanisms that will help ensure that youth will keep amplifying the need to collectively protect life on earth. Through initiatives like this, The Youth Café is at the forefront of guiding youth to become more involved with creating a society that advocates for food sustainability, and human as well as planetary health.

Attending The UNFSS Independent Dialogue | African Youth As Drivers For Decent Job Creation In Sustainable Food Systems

The Youth Café was glad to be part of The UNFSS Independent Dialogue since one of its key thematic areas focuses on ‘Environmental Preservation and Climate Change’, where the focus is on increasing climate change literacy programs, advocacy for the creation of more green jobs, and creation of a collaborative platform where young people can actively engage and participate in finding solutions to the environmental challenges such as increased investment in the blue economy.
