Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4)

To foster continued political commitment and accountability, the UN Secretary-General committed to convening a global stocktaking every two years. The first of these – UNFSS+2 in 2023 – affirmed that food systems remain a top global priority and culminated in a Call to Action for Accelerated Food Systems Transformation, which urged governments and stakeholders to deepen their efforts and committed the UN system to supporting country-led transformation.

The AFS Forum 2024 underscored and reaffirmed the fundamental importance of food systems, and the critical situation faced by the food and agriculture sectors on this continent. Under the theme “Innovate, Accelerate, and Scale: Delivering Food Systems Transformation in a Digital and Climate Era”, it set out to launch Africa’s food systems into a transformative era based on sustainability and resilience.

The specific ideas from the report that are suggested for consideration at the Summit of the Future focus on the “how” of global cooperation, to in turn enable us to deliver on the “what” by: (a) getting the SDGs back on track, while also (b) responding to new opportunities and challenges.
