To foster continued political commitment and accountability, the UN Secretary-General committed to convening a global stocktaking every two years. The first of these – UNFSS+2 in 2023 – affirmed that food systems remain a top global priority and culminated in a Call to Action for Accelerated Food Systems Transformation, which urged governments and stakeholders to deepen their efforts and committed the UN system to supporting country-led transformation.
Human Rights and Democracy Festival 2023 | Freedom, Justice and Equality for All
On December 8, 2023, The Youth Cafe, collaborating with other partners, ForumCiv, Badili Africa, and Africa Uncensored, organised a national Human Rights celebration event at the Daystar University Auditorium on Valley Road, Nairobi, Kenya. The theme, "Navigating the Consequences of Economic Shocks on Human Rights: Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All," occurred from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This gathering drew a diverse audience of at least 300 participants, representing a cross-section of society, including youth, community members, persons with disabilities, and women.
Global Philanthropy Forum 2023 | Confronting Orthodoxies: Evolving Mindsets
The Youth Cafe took part in the 2023 Global Philanthropy Forum conference, which focused on evolving mindsets and confronting orthodoxies in philanthropy. The program sought to engage in needed conversations but was not often conducted in a public forum. It sought roadmaps for funders to embed topics like accountability, localization and justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in their global work. Over the 2.5 days, 220 people were in attendance from 31 countries -- a truly global conversation. Watch The Youth Cafe’s speech.
