Global Philanthropy Forum 2023 | Confronting Orthodoxies: Evolving Mindsets

The Youth Cafe took part in the 2023 Global Philanthropy Forum conference, which focused on evolving mindsets and confronting orthodoxies in philanthropy. The program sought to engage in needed conversations but was not often conducted in a public forum. It sought roadmaps for funders to embed topics like accountability, localization and justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in their global work. Over the 2.5 days, 220 people were in attendance from 31 countries -- a truly global conversation. Watch The Youth Cafe’s speech.

International Day of Democracy 2023 | Empowering The Next Generation

The Youth Café, in collaboration with other partners, participated in the planning and execution of the International Day of Democracy celebration. The event took place on the 15th of September, 2023 at the National Museum, Nairobi. The event aimed at raising awareness, encouraging citizen participation, and fostering discussions on democratic governance and its impact on society.

Go Youth! Global Open Call on Youth Voices | Calling On Youth-Led Ideas And Innovations!

The open call has global prizes. Selected finalists will receive seed funding (quantum subject to the needs of each project) to pilot their innovations in their communities, as well as research mentorship to help monitor and evaluate their projects, write research manuscripts, and disseminate their findings to a wider audience. Finalists will also be given the opportunity to have their projects recognized at international conferences and ceremonies.

The Missing Migrants Project by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports a staggering 3,123 migrant fatalities recorded worldwide in 2018 (November 5, 2018). This data comes from IOM, national authorities, and media sources, “tracking incidents which involve migrants, including refugees and asylum-seekers, who have died or gone missing in the process of of migration towards an international destination.”
