European Investment Bank,the European Union’s finance institution , invited Willice Onyango to offer closing speech on behalf of Africa’s youth in session 4 dedicated to “Leveraging human capital for industrialisation”, during its 4th EIB Africa Day jointly organised with UNIDO in Addis Ababa on Thursday 22 November 2018 on “Sustainable Industrialisation in Africa”.

Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs(SIPA) has selected a strong team of six Students from the Masters of International Affairs and Masters of Public Administration degree programs to work with The Youth Cafe this year on the "Kenyan youth issues forum" project.

In this conferemce,we shared our experiences collaborating with New-York based Virtual Reality Filmmaker Clàudia Prat this Summer to document auto-360 patchwork narratives  of the aftermath of raging floods that affected thousands of families in Narok and dive deep into recent massive cracks in the Rift Valley,leading geologists to conclude that Africa could be gradually splitting into two.

We further showed how working across disciplines(Virtual Reality,Climate Change advocacy,technology,community engagement,and journalism) we learned how to use 360-degree video cameras to film the communities impacted by climate change,the salience of  community indigenous community knowledge,and the possibilities of the immersive technology in producing collaborative Virtual Reality stories.

I believe that by documenting the changes in landscape, we can enhance the comprehension of  the problem that raising temperatures are having in our environment.I think virtual reality can help us both communicate the challenges provoked by climate change,point out to solutions we should adopt,as well as stimulate the wider dialogue around environmental conservation.
