The EU Action Plan On Human Rights And Democracy 2020–2024 is a framework, one of purpose and direction, with a broad range of policies, tools, and political and financial instruments. This EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy 2020-2024 is the third Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy adopted by the EU. As with the previous two Action Plans, the objective is to enhance and hone EU efforts to promote human rights and democracy worldwide.

Guide to Youth Participation in Political and Electoral Processes in Africa

Following a clarion call by the youth during the 2021 African Governance Architecture (AGA) Regional Youth Consultations, the AGA under the auspices of the AGA Youth Engagement Strategy spearheaded the development of a Comprehensive Guide and Facilitator and Participants Manuals on Youth Participation in Political and Electoral Processes in Africa. The Guide and accompanying Manuals were developed in collaboration with the Common Market for East and Southern Africa Secretariat (COMESA) with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation- SDC. The manuals underwent a painstaking research, review, and validation process with the full involvement of youth leaders and experts across the five regions of the continent.

In many countries, youth and vulnerable groups increasingly join the informal waste sector in search of a living. Informal waste reclaiming and treatment can empower marginalized communities, giving them social and working dignity. However, informal waste workers are often unskilled, untrained and perform scavenging and waste picking operations in unsafe and unhygienic conditions. Lack of personal protective equipment, such as gloves, glasses, and masks, exposes them to contamination from hazardous materials and accidental wounds caused by improper management on a daily basis.

Food insecurity challenges were already evident due to previous and ongoing extreme climatic conditions (floods and droughts in southern Africa), pests (locusts in East Africa), civil unrest, slow economic growth, and high levels of unemployment and poverty. This book covers various topics related to agriculture and food security challenges faced by African countries. Africa’s population has been increasing and is estimated to reach 1.2 billion by 2050.

This paper will provide a broad overview of trade and development finance with a focus on Africa as well as underscore the necessity for trade finance. Moreover, although this paper will not serve as an exhaustive audit of trade finance developments in Africa, it will highlight some interesting developments that have occurred in the broad trade finance space in Africa over the past year as well as potential trade and development opportunities.
